Pastor
(919) 645-6720 | drdhailey@hbbc.org
David Hailey has been pastor of Hayes Barton Baptist Church since 1996. A native Midwesterner (Chillicothe, IL), Dave traveled a circuitous route to Raleigh, North Carolina. Educated in Tennessee and Kentucky, he has served churches in Tennessee, Georgia, and North Carolina, long enough to cultivate a Southern drawl and a love for grits!
Married for more than four decades (42 years to be exact) Dave and Susan are the proud parents of three adult children.
Bethany is married to Jerad and they are the parents of Betsy and Drew. They make their home in Maryland.
David John lives in Chicago. He is married to Claire and they are the parents of Abigail and David John Hailey, III (Johnny).
Susanna, our youngest, is married to Cameron and lives in Raleigh. They are the parents of Millie and Louisa.
Though not natives of the Old North State, the Haileys have long since considered North Carolina home. Vacations to both the mountains and the beach have created family memories for a lifetime. When not at church, Dave loves woodworking, reading, and playing golf (though he’s never been any good at it!). A retired high school English teacher, Susan enjoys reading and traveling, especially to her beloved Scotland. Dave and Susan love showing their true-blue colors by cheering for Duke basketball and football. And yes, Dave will probably never stop celebrating the long-awaited 2016 World Series Championship of the Chicago Cubs!!

Hailing from Clinton, NC, Jackson is currently completing his undergraduate degree at UNC-Chapel Hill and is majoring in Sociology and minoring in Music and Chemistry. He plans to attend medical school after completing his undergraduate degree. Prior to joining HBBC’s staff, Jackson served as the organist for First Baptist Church in Clinton, NC for three years. Jackson has studied music intensively, taking private piano lessons for 13 years under the direction of Mrs. Jean Hatch and studying organ going on 9 years under the direction of Mrs. Jean Hatch and, currently, Dr. Susan Moeser at UNC-Chapel Hill.
Jackson is an identical twin to his brother Trace (fun fact!). When he is not practicing music or studying, he enjoys playing golf, cheering on the Tar Heels, and traveling, whether on a relaxing trip to the beach or an adventurous ski trip in the mountains.
