CHILDREN’S MINISTRY AT HBBC

At Hayes Barton, we always keep in mind that Jesus Christ came into the world as a child. That’s why we strive to help children grow “in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man,” as Jesus did (Luke 2:52). And it’s why we’ve created a special ministry to help children learn what it means to be His disciple, leading them to a lifelong relationship with Jesus.

At Hayes Barton, children are loved, valued and nurtured in their faith. We seek to provide a safe and loving environment for children to grow in their knowledge and love of God. Through opportunities to worship, study the Bible, build relationships, play, serve, and fellowship, children are invited to engage with God and one another in a way that celebrates who God created them to be. We welcome all children into our church family and commit to be the presence of Christ for them in this place.

SUNDAY MORNINGS

Sunday School

Sunday School is provided for all ages beginning at 9:45 a.m. on Sunday mornings. During Sunday School, children hear stories from the Bible and consider how they apply to our lives today. Through age-appropriate activities, play, and conversation, children learn about the character of God and God’s deep love for each of them.

Preschoolers and Worship

Following Sunday School, Extended Session (a time of play, crafts and Bible stories provided by volunteers) is offered for infants through kindergartners during the 11:00 AM worship service. Older preschoolers, four-year-olds and kindergarteners, attend the first part of the worship service (through the children’s sermon) with their Extended Session leaders.

Children and Worship

Children of all ages are welcome in the Sanctuary on Sunday mornings. We encourage you to bring your child to worship and to model for them how to use their hearts, hands and voices to bring praise and glory to God. Worship bags are provided at each entrance to the Sanctuary for children to use during worship. On first, third, and fifth Sundays during the school year, Children’s Church is offered for children in first-fifth graders. Following the children’s sermon, children leave for a time of child-oriented worship and fellowship.

wednesday night is family night at hbbc

Family Nights Will Return in the Fall.
Wednesday Nights are an opportunity for families to pause and spend time together in the middle of a busy week. There are opportunities for intergenerational fellowship and community during our Family Night meals, as well as during our family gym time. Following the meal, age-appropriate activities such as choirs and missions for children, the Midweek Gathering for Youth, Bible Studies and Prayer times for adults, and Chancel Choir practice take place. Wednesdays at HBBC provide an uplifting experience for all ages.

CHILD PROTECTION AT HBBC

Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of heaven belongs” (Matthew 19:14).

At Hayes Barton Baptist Church, we strive to welcome children as Jesus did and provide an environment in which every child feels safe, valuable and loved. We also recognize that children are especially vulnerable. That’s why we consider the safety and wellbeing of children and youth to be of the highest priority.

Our Child and Youth Protection Policy ensures that we’re doing everything in our power to protect both our children and our volunteers. The policy affirms our commitment to provide a safe place for youth and children and provides specific guidelines for employees and volunteers.

Every volunteer working with children or youth is required to complete an annual safety training and background check. We utilize a secure online resource called Protect My Ministry for our awareness training and background checks. The Child and Youth Protection Policy also establishes guidelines for overnight camps and retreats.
