POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
Teachers will provide their personal contact information, but WILL NOT check messages while teaching. Please check in with the teacher regularly (either at the end of the lesson or by phone call or email) for suggestions and progress updates. It is VERY IMPORTANT to communicate any special needs to the teacher PRIOR to the start of the semester. This includes ADD, ADHD, emotional needs, physical needs, learning challenges, etc.
Makeup Lessons
One makeup lesson is provided per semester for any reason and with 24- hour notice. A Makeup Lesson Week is built into the semester. 24-hour notice is required for cancellations, or the missed lesson is not eligible for a makeup. In cases of emergency or last-minute illness, contact the teacher as soon as possible.
If the teacher must miss a lesson, or if inclement weather results in the church closing, a makeup lesson will be scheduled at a mutually convenient time.
Recitals
Recital participation is not guaranteed and will be at the teacher’s discretion.
Child/Youth (Grades 1-8) pickup policy
For safety and liability reasons, a parent (or other responsible adult) MUST pick up the child/youth at the lesson door. If the adult is late, the student MUST wait outside the lesson room door until the adult has arrived. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES may a child/youth be picked up in the parking lot or other area of the church.
Encouraging Your Student’s Musical Progress
Younger children will need a parent’s assistance in locating what their teacher wants them to practice (older children should be more independent).
Consider impromptu or planned “performances” for grandparents, siblings, even stuffed animals or pets!
Consider attending a School of Music recital together. This will help your child see what a recital is like prior to their first recital experience.
NOTE: Specific practice techniques and expectations will be communicated by your child’s teacher.
