Who Should Join the Church?

  • NEW CHRISTIANS - Church membership is a natural step following one’s profession of faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. In a Baptist church such as Hayes Barton, the profession of faith is followed by baptism by immersion. We call it believer’s baptism because it is based on a personal salvation experience.

  • CHRISTIANS WHOSE MEMBERSHIP IS ELSEWHERE, BUT WHO ATTEND HBBC - There is a sense of belonging in the “family of faith” that you just can’t get anywhere but in the church. If you’re a Christian, your church membership and home address need to be near one another.

  • HOW DO I JOIN HBBC? - Those who desire to join Hayes Barton may come forward toward the pastor during the hymn following the sermon. Any of our ministers would be happy to meet with you before making this decision to answer any questions you may have about the church.

Hayes Barton Baptist Church Receives New Members By:

  • PROFESSION OF FAITH: A person makes a profession of faith by publicly declaring his or her faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord and by following him in baptism by immersion.

  • TRANSFER OF LETTER: If your current membership is in another Baptist church, you may transfer your membership to Hayes Barton Baptist Church. Our office will take care of all the necessary correspondence.

  • REAFFIRMATION OF FAITH: At Hayes Barton Baptist Church, we recognize that there are many authentic expressions of the Christian faith in many different denominations. If your current membership is in another Christian church, you may join our church by reaffirmation of your faith. We do not require rebaptism for those joining from another Christian denomination. However, if you would like to experience baptism by immersion, we would be happy to discuss it with you.

  • WHEN SHOULD I JOIN THE CHURCH? Perhaps the best way to answer a question like this is by answering a few more questions.

    • Are you a Christian, or if not, are you ready to profess your faith in Christ?

    • Are you in need of a church home?

    • Do you believe that the Lord has led you to this church?

    • If you answered “Yes” to these questions, then wait no longer. Join Hayes Barton Baptist Church this Sunday.

    • If you have questions and would like to speak to someone about the decision to join, please call or email any of our ministers for more information. We also have a contact form here.

If you have questions and would like to speak to a minister about the decision to join, please call the church office (919) 833-4617 for more information.

Becoming a Follower of Christ

Becoming a Christian is both easy and difficult. It only takes a moment to start, but it takes a lifetime to complete.

Christians believe that the world and everything in it were created by a loving and gracious God. The clearest demonstration of God’s love for the world is found in his Son, Jesus. Everything we need to know about God can be found in Jesus.

Jesus calls us to follow him. This is what being a Christian is all about.

How Do You Begin?

It starts with admitting your need for God’s grace and forgiveness. We’ve all made mistakes along the way, and we know that we’re not strong enough or smart enough or good enough to be all that we should be. We need help. The good news is that God wants to help us. That’s why he sent Jesus.

Next, you believe in Jesus. Believing in Jesus involves several things:

  • Jesus is our teacher. He tells us what we need to know about ourselves, one another, the world, and God.

  • Jesus is our model. He shows us the way that God wants us to live—a life of love, forgiveness, sacrifice, and service.

  • Jesus is our savior. His death, burial, and resurrection offer us the forgiveness of sins and the hope of eternal life.

  • Jesus is our Lord. He is worthy of our utmost respect, honor, and obedience.

Finally, you become a part of a community of faith so that you can share your love of Jesus with others.

Does all this make sense? If so, then come and join us on our journey of following Jesus.

But if you’re still a little uncertain, then come talk to us. We would love to hear your questions, and we’ll even make this promise: we won’t put any pressure on you or make you uncomfortable. We believe the best way to share our faith is by giving others the opportunity to start this journey at their own pace.

Who Should Enroll in Membership Matters

Those who are interested in or newly committed to HBBC are welcome.

Persons in this group may fall into one of three categories:

  • Those who have not yet committed their lives to Jesus Christ. This class is designed to instruct and encourage people to make this crucial, life-changing decision.

  • Those who are already Christians and are members of churches of other denominations. This class will assist persons in the process of learning basic Baptist principles.

  • Those who are both Christians and Baptists and are considering membership at HBBC. People in this category will come to understand the unique heritage and personality of our church.

  • Those who have been long-standing members of HBBC. From time to time all of us need a refresher course in the fundamentals of our faith. Membership Matters is designed to help meet this basic need. It is also a fantastic opportunity to welcome and get to know prospective and new members of our church community.

We hope that, whatever category a person may be in, our Membership Matters class will enrich the faith and fellowship of every participant.
